Yezierska, Anzia

(1885-1970)
   American novelist, of Russian origin. She went to New York at the age of 16 and worked in a tailor's shop; later she found better-paid work and ran away from home. Her short stories and novels deal with the adjustment of the Jewish immigrant to American life. Her publications include Hungry Hearts, Salome of the Tenements, Children of Loneliness, Bread Givers, Arrogant Beggar and All I Could Never Be.
